Glazed Sugar Cookies

This was my first try at a cookie glaze from scratch.  After searching multiple recipes, I found that the ingredient ratios were all very similar.  The differences were in the flavour- some people put vanilla extract, others almond, yet some others rum or mint.  For my first try, I didn't add anything.

Here's what I used:

1 cup confectioner's sugar
2 tablespoons warm water
1 tablespoon corn syrup (I used dark, but next time I would use light to avoid darkening the glaze.)

I added the ingredients to a glass bowl and stirred until the mixture was smooth.  It should be thick, but not so thick that it can't run from a spoon in one smooth motion.

I then divided the mixture into smaller bowls so that I could add food colouring to each bowl of glaze separately.  To glaze the cookies, I spooned the glaze into an icing bag and outlined the cookies first, filling in the middle later with glaze.

I kept it simple for my first try, and filled in the cookies without attempting any difficult designs.  I used some regular icing to draw the lines on the small snowflakes.  It was simpler than I had anticipated, so I might try and get a bit fancier next time.
