This month I chose a cookbook that's a little different from all the others. I sometimes run out of breakfast ideas for the munchkins, or I find myself making the same smoothie several days in a row. I'm a big fan of breakfast and brunch foods, so it sounds like this book might be perfect for my family!
Think it might be perfect for your family too? Enter the giveaway below!
Breakfast is the favorite meal of the day for millions of Americans, but those with a gluten intolerance are out of luck, since many breakfast foods and baked items have been banned from their diet. They must find gluten-free alternatives or go without. For the rising number of Americans who are choosing to follow a gluten-free diet as a healthy lifestyle and for parents experimenting with gluten-free recipes for their families, they, too, are having to do without.
That disappointment will no longer be the case. In Gluten-Free Breakfast, Brunch & Beyond, home cooks will discover a variety of gluten-free recipes for their family’s favorite breakfast foods. From light quick breads, muffins, biscuits and scones to tasty pancakes, waffles, coffee cakes and sweet rolls, this collection of 100 recipes will bring breakfast back to the gluten-free table. A tantalizing array of frittatas, quiches, and breakfast casseroles are perfect for any meal of the day. The recipes in Gluten-Free Breakfast, Brunch & Beyond are quick and easy to make and yield delicious, satisfying results.
Recipes for homemade all-purpose flour, crepe batter, pancake batter, sweet roll dough, and biscuit dough will give every gluten-free cook the basics for creating delicious dishes of their own.
In addition to great recipes, Gluten-Free Breakfast, Brunch & Beyond will provide cooks with the information they need about gluten-free ingredients, including ingredients to include—and avoid--in their diet and preparing and measuring ingredients. Each recipe chapter will begin with tips to help home cooks create great-tasting gluten-free breakfast specialties to serve from morning to night.
I love sharing my finds with my readers, and this month's book is no exception! Especially with the colder months settling in, sometimes a fruit cup just doesn't cut it. So, here's your chance to win your very own copy! Good luck. Open to participants in Canada and the United States.

I'm looking forward to trying out this cookbook for the month of August because it is geared for families, with family approved recipes from a fellow gluten free blogger. She has young kids like I do, and if she can get her kids to eat these recipes, then I'm excited to see how my kids respond to them.
I'll keep you posted throughout the month, and post a full review at the end of August. Happy eating!

This book has much of what I like in a cookbook: quick recipes and good photos. The meals are advertised as being 30 minutes or less to make, and I found that to be true. From the book, I made:
Chicken Saltimbocca: This was so easy to make I can't believe I've never done it before. The prosciutto adds the right amount of salty flavour, and the sauce keeps things moist.
Lemon Chicken (I forgot to take a photo): This dish took very little time to put together, and the corn starch coating made the chicken crunchy and delicious. Really concentrated flavour.
Mozzarella Pizza with Pine Nuts & Arugula: I couldn't find currants, but they would have added an extra element to this pizza. a great mix of flavours, and something a bit more special than a typical pizza.
Red Curry Chicken Soup: I have a standard coconut curry chicken soup I make on a regular basis, but this one is just as good. The curry is not hot, and even my four year old liked it.
Arugula Salad with Oranges, Pomegranate Seeds & Parmesan Rounds: This is the perfect salad for when you want to impress guests. The parmesan rounds look complicated to make, but they're not.
I would have made more but this month my son got sick and we had to put him on an elimination diet. Things were a bit crazy for a while and I was pretty much making dishes I was familiar with and that were easy to put together.
However, I have to say that I really like this cookbook. There are so many recipes in there that I still want to try, including a giant chocolate chip cookie that's made in a skillet. I mean, how awesome is that?
This book delivers on its promises. None of the dishes I made were difficult to put together, and they were all manageable within the 30 minute framework. The flavour was great on everything, and my husband even begged me to make more of the lemon chicken. However, many of the dishes look elegant and fancy. The pizza and the arugula salad looked like dishes you would order from a restaurant, yet were simple to make. The addition of a few unexpected ingredients like pine nuts or pomegranate seeds elevate these recipes beyond standard fare.
Verdict: I would recommend this cookbook to anyone looking for simple yet delicious gluten free meals. They are manageable even for a beginner, and there's a wide enough variety of recipes to choose from that everyone should be able to find something they like. I'm not done with this book yet, I already have several recipes bookmarked to try. A good buy.

After last month's slow cooker recipes, I'm definitely ready for some fast & simple meals! Since I could for the week in advance, most of my recipes are ones that can be made in 30 minutes or less, and this book promises just that.
It's not a huge book, but it has recipes ranging from breakfast to dessert, so hopefully I'll find a few things in there to love. The price was right at just under $20, and the photographs are already making my mouth water. I'll try to make at least one recipe from each category over the course of the month, but I generally make the most dishes from the main course recipes and include them in the weekly menu plan.

Cookbook of the Month Program
One of the new features on Celiac Baby! in 2013 is the monthly gluten free cookbook review. Here's how it will work:
Each month I'll choose a cookbook to review. The book will be a dedicated gluten free or allergy cookbook. I'm not particularly interested in books that are written for those looking to go gluten free for weight loss. I cook GF in my house because of my son's gluten intolerance, nothing more, nothing less, and so I will try and choose books that have a variety of recipes, all gluten free.
I'll announce the book of the month sometime during the first week. Then, I'll incorporate recipes from the book into the weekly menu plan, or as part of our breakfasts, lunches and snacks. I'll try to test a minimum of one recipe from each section. For example, an appetizer, a main course, a dessert, etc.
The last week of the month I'll post my review. Reviews will be based partly on how I found the book itself to work for me (layout, images, directions), as well as how me and my family found the recipes. I'll include a cover photo, recipe photos, publication and author info, and price.
Have a cookbook you would like reviewed? Suggestions? Leave a comment or contact me at celiacbaby@hotmail.com.
January's book announcement will come shortly!
